Where do you start when your house overwhelms you?

Updated: Apr 29

I've been there, friends. Feeling overwhelmed with a house that's cluttered or overrun with kids' shoes or school papers. A kitchen that seems to have a mind of its own. Rooms that never seem to look tidy no matter how hard you try. And don't even mention the basement. Where do you start when there's so much to do? I've found a simple solution for getting started. Choose the thing that drives you nuts. Don't start by organizing the basement. It's too big of a job. You won't see results fast enough and you'll get discouraged and quit. If you do finish, you'll be so exhausted that you won't want to work on another area. You won't enjoy the results on a daily basis, so they won't energize you to build on your success.

Choose the thing that drove you nuts this morning when you were starting your day. Maybe packing school lunches is a huge hassle. Maybe the kids lose their mittens every.single.day. Maybe just putting a little makeup on is a battle because your bathroom is overrun with clutter and your essentials aren't easily accessible. Or maybe you can't ever find a pair of socks that don't have a hole. By choosing one small thing that bugs you constantly, you can focus a little time, taking just a few minutes to figure out a better solution. That small improvement will add a tiny glimmer of organization to your daily routine, and reduce just a bit of stress. Ahhh...that will feel good! And it just might inspire you do choose another small spot to work on tomorrow or next weekend! It's the little things, friends. We know that it's the little things in life that mean the most. And it's the little things we can do for our household that will add up to add more peace and less frustration to our daily lives, resulting in a home where you truly LOVE to be and feels like a warm, cozy, relaxing place for your family to enjoy. And isn't that what it's all about? Blessings from our homestead to yours! Ang & Matt
